THE SELINA EXPERIENCE

An Inside look to the hospitality network of the future

When people say "life is too short"and to "live life to the fullest"; Digital Nomads at Selina do just that. My internship through Selina offered me the opportunity to live the unique Selina lifestyle: to connect, co-work and experience the world. Selina is not just a destination, but a neighborhood for likeminded people to call home.

MORE THAN A DESTINATION

What You Need to Know

Selina does not have two hotels that look the same. Each hotel is hand crafted by these talented and local artists/architects that put their own spin and culture on their masterpiece.

I absolutely loved this aspect of the company. It makes Selina very special and carefully crafted. I was able to see this first hand, since my Experience team is in direct relation with Development.  We receive feedback, analyze it and then create guidelines for our Development Department to take action and improve locations!

SELINA'S 2020 GOALS

1. Expand into Caribbean

2. Expand into Mediterranean

3. Open up into Asian Market

4. Create Lighthouse Collective

Understanding the extent of the world and how Selina captures markets was crucial to my professional growth. I was able to walk away from this internship with more global competence and strategies to manage at the global level.

MY PERSONAL INTERNSHIP GOALS

Building Workplace Vocabulary

I hope to expand my Spanish proficiency by acquiring vocabulary revolving around business practices,  which pertain to the global workplace.

 Digital Technology

Each company uses a different platform to carry out specific tasks and operations... So it is important to learn it. The Human Resources department at Selina uses BambooHR, so I hope to become familiar with this platform and gain more knowledge that I can use down the road.

Effectively Working at a Global Scale
Selina has hotels across the world. Therefore, I need to be able to understand cultural differences, nationalities and currencies in order to maximize my ability to effectively work at a global organization.

Problem Solving Skills

Conflicts will arise, therefore I have to be able to accept and face the situation head on.

 Staying Open Minded

Cultures and customs range country to country, so it is important to be culturally competent and accepting to what I am confronted with.

PSA INVOICE AUDIT

My task was to verify whether there were pending and/or wrong invoices of our PSA contractors. Selina's corporate office needs to comply with the law of Panamá which requires that all businesses maintain an updated and accurate record of all PSA salaries. With this ongoing process and constant communication between employees, I was able to obtain valuable employee management experience.

CREATION OF GLOBAL TRAINING CONTENT

"What gets measured gets done"

It is so important to develop a consistent brand across the globe. In order to do that, we need to standardize our customer service and understanding of our goals. Therefore, I created easy and intriguing content to integrate into our new training platform, Articulate. This project allowed me to use my creative side while taking on more responsibility.

CUSTOMER JOURNEY ANALYSIS

As you can see below on this report that I conducted, all these locations are on our radar. Every location that scored lower than 4 on a 5 scale becomes monitored and/or fixed.

1= Red, most critical

2=Orange, high priority

3= Yellow, needs minor changes

This analysis helps the experience team to "close the loop". This means we need to take immediate action and make changes to increase customer satisfaction and improve survey scores. This experience gave me insight to how important collecting data really is with the success of the hospitality industry.
